Aldebaran

Aldebaran is a planetary system orbiting a orange K-class star.  The system lies in the Taurus Constellation of the Inner/Sol Region.

Aldebaran is a large, evolved, giant star located 65 light years from Sol.  The massive sun has a radius that extends 44 times that of Sol's and is over 150 times brighter.  Aldebaran has an inner gas giant planet, whose moon's may have once been habitable.

Aldebaran's primary planet is a gas giant orbited by a habitable moon.  The moon was once an icy covered world located far outside the habitable zone.  As Aldebaran exploded into a giant star, the system's habitable zone extended outward, placing the planet and the moon directly in the middle.  This melted the moon creating lakes and seas, while exposing layers of rock.

Aldebaran Planets

Aldebaran B
Aldebaran B is a gas giant composed of hydrogen and helium.  During much of the period that the sun was in the main sequence, the planet and its moons were in the habitable zone.  They were scorched as the sun grew into a giant star.

Distance: 2.21 AU

Orbit: 3.1 years

Temp: 633 K

Mass: 5.56 Jupiter

Radius: 79,011 km

Gravity: 11.49 g

Rotation: 16 hours

Moon(s): 2

Aldebaran C
Aldebaran C is a gas giant that contains nearly 4 times the mass of Jupiter.  The planet is made up of hydrogen and helium.  Aldebaran C is orbited by a system of moons, one of which is habitable.

Distance: 11.92 AU

Orbit: 38.2 years

Temp: 299 K

Mass: 3.99 Jupiter

Radius: 76,650 km

Gravity: 8.75 g

Rotation: 14 hours

Moon(s): 7

Aldebaran C2
Aldebaran C2 is a large, habitable, Mars-sized moon that orbits Aldebaran C.  The moon was extremely cold and covered in ice during much of it's geologic history.  Only recently has the planet become habitable as Aldebaran grew into a giant, allowing life to explode across the surface.

Distance: 410k km

Orbit: 20.3 hours

Temp: 299 K

Mass: 0.19 Earth

Radius: 3,815 km

Gravity: 0.54 g
